After the first week of school, we have 269 enrolled. This year we implemented a sustainability plan to pay for the K1a teachers salaries, so each family had to pay $15 to register their child in school. This is a stretch for some families, but we did allow them to pay half first semester and half second semester. Some of the families have 3 or 4 children in school. We were not sure if it would cause families to keep their children at home. We are checking on each child that did not register to find out the reason; we do not want this fee to interfere with a child’s education. So far, some have left for various reasons like moving to another area or moving in with a relative in a different area. This seems to happened frequently, The extended family helps care for children when necessary.
We just hired Micheal Nalakulah to teach 5th grade math and science.
